Lombardy House Rules

 The Goal

Be the first player to get rid of all your cards in a round.

We play Golf Scoring: multiple rounds, running totals, and the lowest score wins.

Setup

  • Shuffle and deal 7 cards to each player.

  • Put the rest face down as the Draw Pile.

  • Flip the top card to start the Discard Pile.

  • Player to the dealer’s left goes first.

First Card

  • Number card: play normally.

  • Skip / Reverse / Draw Two: applies to the first player.

  • Wild: first player chooses the starting color.

  • Wild Draw Four: shuffle it back in and flip a new card.

Your Turn

You must do one of the following:

  1. Play 1 card that matches the top of the Discard Pile by color, number, or symbol (or play a Wild).

  2. If you can’t play, draw 1 card.

  • If it’s playable, you may play it immediately.

  • If you don’t play it, your turn ends.

Action Cards (Standard)

Skip — next player loses their turn.

Reverse — reverses direction.

  • With 2 players, Reverse acts like Skip.

Draw Two (+2) — next player draws 2 and loses their turn.

Wild — choose the next color.

Wild Draw Four (+4) — choose the next color; next player draws 4 and loses their turn.

House Rules

1) Stacking (Same Penalty Only)

You may stack:

  • Draw Two on Draw Two

  • Wild Draw Four on Wild Draw Four

Stacked penalties add up. The first player who can’t stack draws the full amount and loses their turn.

No mixing: you may not stack a +2 on a +4 or a +4 on a +2.

2) Jump-In (Exact Match Only)

If you have the exact same card as the one just played (same color and same number/symbol), you may jump in immediately, even if it’s not your turn.

Rules:

  • Play quickly and clearly.

  • If two people jump at the same time, the player closest in normal turn order wins.

  • Wrong jump-in = draw 2 cards, and play continues from the correct player.

3) UNO Call-Out

When you have one card left, you must say “UNO!”

If another player catches you before the next player starts their turn, you draw 2 cards.

4) You Can’t Go Out on a Wild Draw Four

You may finish on:

  • Number cards

  • Skip / Reverse / Draw Two

  • Wild

You cannot finish on a Wild Draw Four. If your last card is a +4, you must keep it and play something else (or draw).

If No One Goes Out (Draw Pile Runs Out)

If the Draw Pile runs out:

  • Leave the top card of the Discard Pile in place.

  • Shuffle the rest of the Discard Pile to make a new Draw Pile.

  • Keep playing.

End of Round & Scoring (Golf Style)

A round ends when a player plays their last card.

How scoring works:

  1. The player who goes out scores 0.

  2. Everyone else adds up the cards left in their hand and adds that total to their score.

  3. Start a new round and keep going until someone reaches 300 points.

  4. When someone reaches 300, finish that round and the lowest total score wins.

Card values:

  • Number cards: face value

  • Skip / Reverse / Draw Two: 20 each

  • Wild / Wild Draw Four: 50 each

House Etiquette

  • Keep your hand above the table (cards facing you). Don’t tuck cards under the table, in pockets, or out of view.

  • If a rule dispute happens, the table votes (majority wins) and the game continues.

Quick Reference

  • Draw 1 if you can’t play (and you may play it immediately)

  • Stacking allowed (+2 with +2, +4 with +4)

  • Jump-in allowed on exact matches

  • Must say UNO with 1 card left

  • Cannot go out on a +4

  • If the Draw Pile runs out, shuffle the Discard Pile (leave the top card)
